WCC students take part in government simulation

Sugar Grove—For four days in late February, 13 Waubonsee Community College students experienced what it’s like to run the state’s government as they participated in the 32nd annual Model Illinois Government Simulation in Springfield.

Nearly 300 students from 18 Illinois colleges and universities participated in the legislative simulation, filling the roles of legislators, lobbyists, journalists, attorneys, budget analysts and more.

Waubonsee student Ben Mullenbach, of Oswego, was honored with the Donna Lennon Award for Outstanding Senate Committee Person, while Zachary Little, of Aurora, received the Kurtis L. Hermes Award for Outstanding Journalist.

James Colford, of Somonauk served as the head delegate of Waubonsee’s group, which also included Eric Hollis, Steff Perez, and Corina Quinonez, of Plano; Amanda Gaddy, of North Aurora; Jeremy Meciej and Shawn Simpson, of Geneva; Lindsay Facer, of Sugar Grove; Issac Palma and Scott Hall, of Aurora; and Edward Chaney, of Elburn.
