ELBURNâ€”St. Gall Catholic Church is in the process of buying the vacant lot immediately to the south of its existing cemetery on Main Street, just north of the Elburn & Countryside Community Center.
In conjunction with that purchase, the church is seeking re-zoning of the property and a special-use permit to use the property for future expansion of its cemetery.
The church is seeking to have the village change the vacant-lot’s zoning from single-family residential (R-1) to residential estate district (R-E).
St. Gall will not purchase the property unless the village approves the request, according to the church’s zoning-change petition.
The Elburn Planning Commission on Monday recommended that the village approve St. Gall’s request.
