William. J. Berens, 84, of Sycamore, passed away at Bethany Rehab Center on Monday, June 7, 2010.
William was born June 12, 1925, in Virgil on the family farm. He was the son of William. N. and Emma Berens.
He grew up in Virgil. When a young man, he became a carpenter/contractor and worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1980.
After retirement, he repaired furniture for just about anyone in the area.
Through the years, Bill had acquired many friends that he never ceased to remind you about.
His breakfast club buddies, for instance, whom he met with at various local restaurants, would always stir some kind of comeback remarks when William had an enlightening remark or catch phrase to throw out to them—which were all in good fun of course.
He was formerly married to Francis A. Berens and had four children. Later in his life he married Vivian Butts.
He is survived by four children, David (Wanda) Berens Maple Park, Richard (Georgia) Berens Maple Park, Michael (Toni) Berens Maple Park, and Bonnie (Jeff) Worland Jamestown, N.Y.
He had five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Joan (George) Potter of Canada and Dorothy (Chuck) Bristol of Virgil.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Dorothy Bristol, and his beloved dog, Susie.
A memorial service was held on his birthday, Saturday, June 12, at the Church of Christ, Sycamore.
