Kaneland—Kaneland students who participate in DECA, a business and marketing club, will have their state-qualifying match on Jan. 27 at the Charlestowne Mall.

Every year, DECA automatically makes it to a qualifying match, and they have qualified for state 11 times before. The team will face many different area schools, including Geneva, East and West Aurora, Streamwood, Downers Grove, Naperville, Waubonsie Valley, St. Charles and more, said Tammi Conn, DECA sponsor.

“It’s a competition in which students will compete in one of 22 events. They will take an economy test, marketing test, and do one or two role plays,” Conn said .

To qualify, DECA members must perform well and meet certain criteria, according to Paul Mayer, assistant DECA sponsor.

“Hopefully we will have good results and will qualify for state,” Mayer said.
