Gierke leads Kaneland girls at WWS indoor meet

Kaneland girls track began its indoor track season on Saturday at Wheaton-Warrenville South.

The six-team invite saw the Lady Knights finish fifth with 59.5 points. Neuqua Valley of Naperville took the meet with 143 points. Naperville North finished second at 116 points and the host Tigers took third at 109. Lake Park of Roselle had 84.5 points to finish fourth.

Four first places came Kaneland’s way, beginning with University of Northern Iowa signee Lindsay Gierke. The senior had three first places, beginning with the 55 meter high hurdles in 8.9 seconds. Gierke also won the 55 meters competition at 7.3 seconds and the 200 meter dash at 27 seconds.

Teammate Andi Strang won the top prize in the 800 meter run with an effort of 2:33.6. Lisa Roberson of Kaneland finished second exactly three seconds behind.

Kaneland’s 4×400 relay foursome earned a fourth place with a time of 4:20.5. Meanwhile, Jordan Pinkston took fifth place in the pole vault with an eight-foot effort.
