Knights edged by rival Vikings on court
The Knights dropped a close affair to rival Geneva on Friday night at KHS by a 39-38 clip.
The Vikings swept the season series, the first loss being at the United Center in Chicago on Dec. 31, 2008.
Kanelandâ€™s record dropped to 13-11 (5-8 Western Sun Conference).
The loss stopped Kanelandâ€™s five-game win streak.
Mike Pritchard scored a game-high 15 points, the first time he found himself at the top of the list this season. Dave Dudzinski had 10. The Knights were 8-for-12 from the foul line.
Kaneland led 9-6 after one quarter, but fell behind the Vikings by a 22-17 margin at the halftime buzzer. While Kaneland closed within 30-26 after three quarters, Geneva won on two free throws by Christian Frederking with 1.5 seconds left. Dudzinskiâ€™s free throws with 15.8 ticks left gave Kaneland a one-point lead that failed to hold up.
Sophomore action had Geneva beating the Knights 47-37. Zach Ringhouse had 11 points to lead KHS.
For Kaneland, the final regular season game is Friday, Feb. 27, against the Batavia Bulldogs. Batavia comes into the contest at 17-7.
After the end of the regular season, Kaneland starts prepping for the IHSA Class 3A playoffs.
Wednesday, March 4, has KHS (second seed) face Hampshire (3) at 7:30 p.m. The winner will face Wheaton Academy, Sycamore or Burlington Central in the regional title game in Burlington on Friday, March 6.
