Letter: Appreciation of moment of silence

Last week, my school started having a moment of silence during the morning announcements. While some people roll their eyes as we sit in silence, I, for one, appreciate it.

This moment of silence has caused a controversy, because some kids are feeling like they are forced to be praying during this time. I understand how it could be a religious issue, but they clearly state that is a moment to reflect on your day. You can use that short amount of time however you like.

Others are complaining that it is a waste of time. I personally don’t think a whole 10 seconds or less is going to ruin the whole curriculum of the day. With a busy day ahead of us, it’s nice to just have a moment to take a breather and reflect on our day.
