Roy W. Johnson, 89, of Lily Lake, passed away on Feb. 17, 2011, at Delnor Hospital. He was born on Nov. 20, 1921, in Phoenix, Ariz., the son of Birger A. and Jennie (Bloomquist) Johnson.
The family lived in Highwood, Ill., and St. Charles before moving in 1935 to the farm at Lily Lake.
He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1939.
On Aug. 19, 1944, he married Norma Leone Johnson. Their life together was devoted to family and farming. She preceded him in death in 1993.
Roy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lily Lake, and he had a deep interest in local history, supported by a prodigious memory.
Survivors include four children, Ross (Jennie) Johnson of Tampa, Fla., Ellen (Craig) Eden of Dorsey, Ill., Paul (Betty) Johnson of Ft. Morgan, Colo., and Owen Johnson of Lily Lake. Also surviving are his sister, Betty Barnett of Napa, Calif.; brother, John Johnson of Crystal River, Fla.; dear friend, Jackie Obenauf of Wasco; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma; and one infant son.
Visitation was from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL 60119. A funeral to celebrate his life was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, also at Conley Funeral Home. Rev. Ernst Rex, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Lily Lake, officiated. Interment followed at Blackberry Township Cemetery.
