Winter heating assistance still available

By on March 4, 2011

Kane County—Help is still available this winter for Kane and DeKalb County residents in paying their high energy bills. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) continues to accept applications from those who have not either applied for or received a LIHEAP benefit since September 2010.

LIHEAP offers a once-yearly benefit for eligible households, including both renters and homeowners. Applicants who do not pay their energy bills directly may also be eligible for assistance. Reconnection assistance is also available for those who are disconnected from their energy services.

Eligibility is based on the household’s combined income. For a household of one, the gross income for the last 30 days cannot exceed $1,354; for two people, $1,821; for three people, $2,289; for four people, $2,756; and for five people, $3,224.

Applications are taken by appointment only.
