KANELAND—Accolades didn’t stop for Kaneland baseball last week, as the Northern Illinois Big XII All-Conference squad was released.
For the State Champion Knights baseball program, Bobby Thorson, in addition to being named conference MVP, was given an All-State honor, also being named team Offensive MVP by Kaneland.
After Kaneland was crowned Class 3A State champions in Joliet, Ill., Thorson was named as East Division Most Valuable Player, notable for his pitching. Thorson, along with DeKalb’s Brian SIsler (infielder), Sycamore’s Eric Ray (infielder), Morris’ Greg Struck (DH), Morris’ Josh DeGraaf (P), DeKalb’s Jake Gordan (outfilelder), Morris’ Kjeld Torkelson (outfielder), DeKalb’s Trenton Sopko (catcher) and Rochelle’s Micha McCulloch (catcher), were unanimous selections.
Other Knights selected to the conference elite were Kyle Davidson for infield, Joe Camiliere for outfield, Sam Komel for At-large, while Drew French, Corey Landers and Jake Razo made honorable mention.
Other selections were infielder Jacob Mathre of Yorkville, Morris’ Ryan Bernickus of Sycamore at utility, DeKalb pitcher Cody Varga and Sycamore hurler Jake Turner.
Yorkville’s Luke Lucchetti made the elite group as an outfielder, while teammate Josh Cooper was named an At-large member.
