SUGAR GROVE—The Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce will not host its Community Golf Outing in 2011.

The Chamber Board of Directors, at its June 15 meeting, made the decision to cancel this year’s golf outing, which was scheduled for Friday, June 24, at Bliss Creek Golf Course.

“Representatives from the committee discussed the progress of the golf outing at that time,” Chamber Executive Director Shari Baum said.

A press release from Sugar Grove Chamber President Steven Ekker cited a lack of sponsorships and participants, due to the struggling economy, as the reason for canceling the event. Ekker also said in the press release that the event was “economically unfeasible,” and wouldn’t be moved to a date later in the year because the economy’s effect on both the event’s sponsors and participants likely would not change before the end of 2011.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for the Community Golf Outing, as Baum said the event would indeed take place in 2012.

“We’re actually looking forward to having a better golf outing next year,” she said.
