Pilot dies in plane crash

BIG ROCK—A plane crash in Big Rock Township on Sunday morning claimed the life of a local pilot.

John Morrison, 73, of Aurora, was the pilot and lone passenger of a small plane that took off from Aurora Airport and was traveling north across Route 30 when, for an unknown reason, the plane began to lose altitude before it crashed into a cornfield on the south side of Granart Road—west of Camp Dean Road—in Big Rock Township.

Kane County Sheriff’s deputies and Kane County Forest Preserve officers responded to the crash site just before 8 a.m. Morrison, who had a long history of flying experimental aircraft, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morrison’s family is not making any statements, and asked that the media respect their wishes in their time of grief.

The Sheriff’s Office does not anticipate releasing any further information on this crash.
