VIRGIL—The 2011 assessment roll for Virgil Township was published Aug. 18, 2011, in the Elburn Herald.

After all revisions and corrections by the Township Assessor are applied, the equalization factor for this township is 1.0000.

To obtain assessment information about a property in this township, call the Virgil Township Assessor’s Office at (815) 827-3388 or visit www.virgiltownship.net/.

To obtain complaint forms and a copy of the Rules and Procedures of the Kane County Board of Review, visit www.KaneCountyAssessments.org/BOR.htm or call (630) 208-3818.

Pursuant to state law, the deadline to file 2011 assessment complaints for the properties within Virgil Township is Sept. 19. No complaint for property in this township can be accepted after that date.

Free property tax clinics
Each year, the Kane County Board of Review offers free property tax clinics during the period in which assessment complaints can be filed. The next clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6.

The clinics are held in the auditorium of Building A of the Kane County Government Center Campus in Geneva; each clinic begins promptly at 6 p.m. and lasts about two hours. Topics addressed include how assessed valuations are developed, the process for filing assessment complaints and appeals, and how to apply for homestead exemptions that can reduce a homeowner’s property tax burden.

The clinics are not suitable forums for discussing any specific individual assessments; these questions are best directed to the Assessor of the Township in which the property is located.

Both taxpayers and practitioners (attorneys, appraisers, brokers, etc.) are welcome to attend. For more information, call the Board of Review office at (630) 208-3818 or visit www.KaneCountyAssessments.org/Clinics.pdf.
