SUGAR GROVE—Waubonsee Community College students, faculty and staff gathered to remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001, during a short ceremony on the Sugar Grove campus Sunday.
In addition to patriotic music and the reading of several poems about 9/11 and its aftermath, Waubonsee Student Activities Manager Cherie Westfall offered thoughts and comments.
“(On 9/11), we listened with horror to our radios and relived it again and again when we returned home that evening and for weeks afterward whenever we opened a newspaper or watched the news,” Westfall said. “We cried as individuals, as communities and as a nation.”
Waubonsee’s remembrance also included a moment of silence and the placing of flowers at the campus’ peace pole.
