ELBURN—Even with some assets sick and injured, Kaneland girls cross country still saw noteworthy efforts at its own showcase.
The annual Eddington Invite, hosted by Kaneland saw runners Abby Dodis, Maggie Brundige and Amanda Lesak all achieve personal bests at the hilly landscape of Elburn Woods.
Crystal Lake Central (40 points) took the event, while Benet Academy finished second with 83 and Marengo took third in 89.
Northern Illinois Big XII conference mates Sycamore (173) and DeKalb (231) finished seventh and eighth.
Crystal Lake Central’s Sami Staples, a freshman, took the race crown in 18 minutes, 34.6 seconds.
Dodis, striding through her junior season, finished eighth overall with 19:45.6 worth of time.
With her best Elburn Woods effort behind her, Dodis believes it’s a beacon of things to come.
“We are excited and feeling really good,” Dodis said. “We wanted to see what we could do this year.”
Teammate Brundige finished in 17th with a time of 20:08.4. Amanda Lesak finished 58th with a time of 21:44.6.
On the frosh/soph side, Kaneland’s fifth place was buoyed by top runner Victoria Clinton at 15:23.2.
Fellow freshman Aislinn Lodwig was fifth at 16:09.6, and Anna Piazza was 38th at 17:57.
Up next for Kaneland girls: the Rock River Run in Sterling, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 24.
