PR’s abound for girls XC at Rock River Run in Sterling

STERLING—Kaneland’s girls cross country team might bypass the opportunity to coin their performance on Saturday as Sterling.

Rather, after the annual trip to the Rock River Run, they’ll just keep the positive trajectory going and continue to get healthy.

With four runners in the top 16 in quite the crowded field, Kaneland’s 72 points was just one behind champion Geneva for race supremacy. Dixon (76) and Freeport (119) were third and fourth, respectively, while Belvidere North took fifth at 145.

Hampshire standout Cassie Kruse took the race with a time of 17 minutes, 53 seconds, but junior cornerstone Abby Dodis was third with a time of 18:28, a personal best. Close behind was freshman Victoria Clinton, who ran fifth with a time of 18:44, also a personal best.

Two more PR’s were had by Lady Knights Maggie Brundige, with the junior hitting 12th at 19:20, and freshman teammate Aislinn Lodwig at 16th with a time of 19:28.

Ahead for the Lady Knights is the Freeport Invite in pretzel country on Saturday, Oct. 1.
