"Valente was principal of Kaneland High School for two years before he resigned in June 2009." If we really want to protect our students and our community we will not allow incompetent people to "resign" as opposed to be fired. I teach in an adjacent school district and have children in 302 and know how common this practice is. Not only with admin. but with teachers too. I have always wondered if this was the situation here too.

Agree with you 302peep to a point. That doesn't explain or excuse Valente missing the majority of meetings or his total lack of respect for fellow board members and superintendent. When you skip most of the meetings because of conflicts or you just don't think it's important enough to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, you are abdicating your responsibility. Showing up and being disruptive and disrespectful is inexcusable. If Valente has valid issues (and I know there are some) then being at each and every meeting would be the best way to make your concerns heard. There is no reason for the bad behavior. It's childish and unprofessional and certainly unbecoming of someone with Valente's experience and education.

Mr. Valente met all the criteria for this position and was voted into office by the community for what he had to offer. The finger pointing between board members should not happen and is not supported, but asking for further details and good discussions on subject matters are in my book. It is about time a board member(s) starts asking meaningful questions. Many times the administration has presented data favoring themselves and not the full picture on how our children are actually doing. When Mr. Valente's questions are answered, we would at least have learned more from those stats. If things are revealed then corrective action needs to take place. If administration members are not doing their job then they need to be held accountable and asked to pack their bags if that is what it takes. There is no room to get complacent in any job when it comes to our children's education within our schools here at Kaneland.

I questioned Valente's reasons for running for the school board in the first place given that he left his job as high school principal and is now a high school principal serving another district. In the forums leading up to the election he seemed arrogant and snide. I have to wonder how the people who supported him feel now that he apparently doesn't think his role is important enough to attend the majority of meetings and he can be rude, disrespectful and arrogant to other members of the board. Clearly he does have an axe to grind and he is not serving the public or the students. It's unfortunate that other members of the community who ran were denied the opportunity to serve by someone who clearly has no business being on the board. Valente needs to resign. He may believe that being an educator and administrator gives him the right to be "opinionated" but it does not give him the right to be derelict in his responsibilities to an elected position he sought or to be disrespectful to other board members. He's an embarrassment to himself and his profession and the community that supported him.
