FREEPORT—No pretzel logic needed for a good showing in Freeport.
The Kaneland High School girls cross country team impressed at Freeport’s annual invite on Saturday, garnering 38 points in the eight-team crowd.
The 38 points bested the host school’s 60, Rockford Boylan’s 75 and Rock Falls’ 80.
Freshman Victoria Clinton crowned herself queen of the 2.9 mile course with a time of 17 minutes, 48.4 seconds, besting Freeport’s Ellie Willging by almost 10 seconds. It marked the first top varsity finish for Clinton.
Kaneland’s Abby Dodis helped Sandwich Willging with a time of 18:09.4 seconds, good for third.
Another talented freshman, Aislinn Lodwig, took fifth with a time of 18:25, and KHS junior Maggie Brundige was 13th at 18:51.88.
“It was nice, after finishing second a few times this year to win a team championship,” KHS coach Doug Ecker said. “If we are going to finish top 5 at the Sectional, we will continue to need to have strong races.”
