SUGAR GROVE—Six months after the surprise firing of Library Director Beverly Holmes Hughes, the Library Board on Jan. 26 voted to approve a mutual release and settlement agreement with the former director.

According to the settlement agreement, the Library Board agreed to pay Hughes $37,500. The library on Aug. 12, 2011, paid Holmes Hughes $16,093.75 for unused vacation and personal time.

The settlement agreement states that, “To the extent that any inquiry is made by any person, organization or entity who is not one of the specifically defined ‘authorized individuals’ concerning the settlement, this statement, the issues giving rise to Hughes’ termination, and/or any dispute between Hughes and library, the parties will simply state, ‘The dispute has been resolved,’ or something to that effect, and will make no other comment.”

Hughes served as library director from May 1990 to July 14, 2011.
