KANELAND—After a long drive to Streator led to victory earlier last week, Kaneland was looking to ride the victory bus against Yorkville right in its own backyard.
As it was, the Fox roundballers put Kaneland in a rut on Friday.
With Kaneland struggling on the offensive end for an important portion of the game, KHS fell 62-51 to Yorkville.
The regular season sweep by Yorkville over the host Knights sunk the Kaneland record to 15-9 with a 5-4 mark in Northern Illinois Big XII conference action.
Kaneland has gone 6-4 in its previous 10 battles this season, and has not lost two in a row at any point through 24 games.
Thomas Williams produced a game-high 20 points, while Marcel Neil added 10 of his own.
The Knights were in decent standing after the first quarter with a 13-all tie, but the points came at a high premium in the next two frames.
Yorkville went into the locker room up 30-18, and found itself ahead 44-26 after the third quarter
The Knight offense found another gear with 25 points in the fourth, but the onslaught was too late.
The sophomores came away with a 53-51 overtime win over Yorkville, as John Pruett had 16 points in the win.
The freshmen lost to Morris, 35-26 in the NIB-12 tournament.
Just one more regular season game remains for the Knights—a home battle against Rochelle on Friday, Feb. 24.
Kaneland, the number-one seed in the Class 3A Rochelle Regional, faces either Burlington Central or Sycamore on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m.
