Elizabeth (Pintye) Meisch, 90, of DeKalb, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
She was born March 19, 1922, in Aurora, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Selagy) Pintye. She attended St. Therese grade school, East Aurora High School and graduated from Madonna High School in 1939. Elizabeth married Robert R. Meisch on May 11, 1946, at St. Therese Church in Aurora. He preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1991.
She and her husband farmed in Naperville, Ill., Batavia, Sugar Grove, Maple Park and Genoa, Ill., before retiring to their home in DeKalb in 1991. In addition to farming, Liz worked at The Bluebell Dress Shop in Naperville; Sears Roebuck & Co. at Northgate in Aurora; Pick ’N’ Save in DeKalb; and worked part-time for her daughter and son-in-law at Gonterman Jewelers in DeKalb. She and her husband worked at Maple Park Sale Barn in Maple Park for many years until its closing, as well as the Kane County Flea Market from 1979 until each of them passed on.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb and a lifelong member of the “Gad-a-bouts,” a social club from grade school, until her passing.
Liz was a city girl who married a farmer, raised five children, and was involved in many of the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great love for life, family and friends. Lizzie was a people person and loved dancing, playing cards (she always loved a good game of cards and occasional trips to the boats in Aurora), baking (she made great apple slices, rhubarb pie, kiefla and stuffed cabbage rolls) and was famous for her German potato salad.
She enjoyed her travels to the Ivory Coast, Malaysia, the Caribbean, and throughout the United States, including Hawaii.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, David (Donna) Meisch of Elburn, Cindy (Dick) Wickness of DeKalb, Dennis (Jeri) Moody-Meisch of Batavia, Robert Meisch of Aurora and Sharon (Hyoung) Meisch-Suh of Davis, Calif.; her grandchildren, Amy Meisch, Sara (David) Fritz, Jason Meisch, Adam (Brigid) Wickness, Emily (Dan) Weller, Kate Wickness, Nicholas Meisch and Lura Meisch; her great-grandchildren, Tre and Tyler Fritz, Conor and Aislinn Wickness, and baby Weller, due in June.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Florence Garbe; a brother, Dimitri, in infancy; and many in-laws.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, at Annunciation of The Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 1820 Church Road, Aurora, with the Rev. Brian Konopa celebrating. Burial will follow at Marywood Cemetery, Aurora. Visitation was held Wednesday at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
