Elaine (Hartman) Christian, 88, of Aurora, passed away July 7, 2012, at Jennings Terrace in Aurora. She was born April 13, 1924, in Waterman, Ill., the daughter of Alvin and Lillian (Johnson) Hartman.
She grew up in the Hinckley and Big Rock area and graduated from Big Rock High School in 1941. Elaine was united in marriage on Nov. 1, 1942, to Clarence (Ted) Christian at her home in Big Rock, where Elaine and Ted resided for 19 years. Elaine was active in Big Rock as a leader for the 4-H Club and as an election judge. She was secretary at the Big Rock Elementary School for 25 years and a clerk at the Big Rock Post Office. Elaine also worked at Dreyer Medical Clinic. During retirement, Elaine and Ted lived in Haines City, Fla., for 14 years, and then returned to Aurora in 2000. She was a member of the English Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Christian of Aurora and Ruth Ann (Kent) Mason of Rockville, Md., as well as three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband in 2007.
Funeral services will take place Friday, July 13, 11 a.m. at the English Congregational United Church of Christ, 301 Rhodes St., Big Rock, with Rev. William Riegle officiating. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley.
Visitation will take place Thursday, July 12, 5 to 7 p.m. at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl. Aurora. Friends may also visit at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
