Thunder strikes

Northern Illinois Thunder 16U girls won first place at the Wisconsin Sparkler USSSA State Tournament in Columbus, Wisc., over the July 1 weekend. Jessa Garcia hit seven home runs, including a grand slam, in the championship game. Kayla Kauffman and Shannen Sutherland also hit home runs during earlier games. The team consists of (front) Ellissa Eckert , Madison Hester, Courtney Thomas, (middle) Selena Kweder, Ashlyn Ebel, Abbey Etheridge, Jessa Garcia, Mackenzie Brown, (back) Coach Hester, Shannen Sutherland, Cara Smoczynski , Coach Thomas, Kayla Kauffman, Molly Jordan and Coach Perry Clark.
