Elburn—As summer comes to an end, Elburn Days will be upon the Kane County community. Saturday, Aug. 18, marks the day of the traditional Elburn Days 5K or 1 mile fun run.
According to the Lions Club website, those who sign up early, before Aug. 15, registration will be $20. Otherwise, registration fees will be $25.
“We want to generate revenue for Lions case charities,” said Mark Eddington, Lions Club chair of the event. “In conjunction, we also want to bring people to Elburn and Lions Park. We want to get people to go to other Elburn Day things as well, like the Boy Scout pancake breakfast.”
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and the race will step off from the south pavilion of Elburn Lions Park.
“The path will wind around the southwest quadrant of Elburn, starting at the park and going around the park using side streets, such as Parkside and Stetzer,” Eddington said.
Although there will be two events going on at one time, both running paths will start from the same place. The one-mile fun activity will just take a faster route to get back rather than going the whole three miles.
There will be eight sponsors this year for the race: Alice’s Place, Elburn Chamber of Commerce, GTP Printing, MWF Mortgage, Pound 4 Pound Fitness, Richwrap, Inc., Spring Bluff Nursery and Trotter and Associates, Inc.
Eddington said that the new sponsors for the event are Pound 4 Pound Fitness and Elburn Chamber of Commerce.
Overall, the Lions Club cannot wait until the event and has high hopes for this year’s turn out.
“We are looking forward to another good year,” Eddington stated.
