WCC named a ‘Military Friendly School’

SUGAR GROVE—For the second straight year, Waubonsee Community College has been named a Military Friendly School by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.

The company gives this designation to the top 15 percent of the nation’s colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

Waubonsee typically enrolls 400 military personnel and veterans each semester. In addition to individualized help from the college’s transfer/veterans advisor, these students also benefit from specialized financial aid counseling, the opportunity to earn credit for military training, and peer support from members of the college’s veterans club.

The college also has a policy in place to help those students called to active duty during their studies, and hosts a special Veterans Day observance each year.
