Neal L. Petrie, 58, of Rochelle, Ill., passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in Hackensack, Minn.

Neal was born Aug. 5, 1954, in Sycamore, Ill., to Grover and Carrie (Gum) Petrie of Elburn. He graduated from Kaneland High School in 1972.

Neal retired from Laborers Local 109. He worked for Ray Petrie Construction, Metzger Bros. Construction, Gilbert Construction and Walker Construction. Neal loved working concrete and admiring a job well done.

He enjoyed fishing, and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. After Neal retired, he spent from spring to fall in his family’s cabin on the lake. He loved going out on his beloved boat with cousin and fishing buddy, Jack Johansen, to find that fish that got away.

Neal is survived by his mother, Carrie Petrie of Elburn; sister, Cara (Stephen) Bartel of DeKalb; niece, Abigail; son, Lt. Cpl. Nicholas (Kasey) Miller of Fallbrook, Calif.; and granddaughters, Brooklyn and Harley.

He was preceded in death by his father Grover; and brother, Kenton.

An informal day of honor for Neal took place in Hackensack, with the beautiful fall colors and tranquil lake waters that he loved so much.
