Martha Jeanne Vanatta

Martha Jeanne Vanatta, 84 of Rochelle, Ill., formerly of Kaneville, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Aurora, the daughter of William A. and Cecile L. (Critchlow) Hope. She married Lloyd M. Vanatta on Aug. 11, 1946, in Aurora. Martha was a graduate of West Aurora High School’s class of 1946.

Martha worked as an inspector for Richardson Electronics in LaFox for 27 years. After her retirement, she volunteered as a ‘grandparent’ at the Lincoln Elementary School in Rochelle, helped as a Girl Scout troop leader for her granddaughters, and was always willing to babysit for her family and her church friends’ children.

She was a former member of the Kaneville United Methodist Church and a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore.

Martha is survived by three sons, William (Jacque) Vanatta of Aurora, Randall (Marcia) Vanatta of Spring Valley, Minn., and Ronald (Carla) Vanatta of Sycamore; one daughter, Terrell (Brian) Weber of Rochelle; nine grandchildren, Gailyn Friedrich, Ben (Lisa) Vanatta, Bridget (Derrick) Sanford, Andy (Sarah) Vanatta, Todd (Shannon) Vanatta, Brandon Weber, Adam (Julie) Weber, Colin Weber and Merideth Weber; nine great-grandchildren, Emily and Parker Friedrich, Addison and Sam Vanatta, Taylor and Morgan Sanford, Josh and Jenni Lief, and Hunter Vanatta; one sister-in-law, Barbara Hope of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd, in 1970; her granddaughter, Tiffany, in 1977; three sisters and one brother.

Visitation and funeral service were held on Saturday, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore. Rev. Robert C. Kinnear officiated. Burial was held at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora.
