Marmion Schroeder Snipers rifle team takes third at State
Marmion Academy’s Schroeder Snipers rifle team on March 2 competed in Precision Air Rifle and Sporter Air Rifle classes at the Illinois High School Rifle League State Championship.
The Precision team members were seniors Jack Novotny of Lemont, Ill., and Samuel Eallonardo of Yorkville, Ill., and juniors Jarrett Doyle of Wheaton, Ill., and Thomas Schafer of Batavia. Marmion’s Precision team placed third in state with a total score of 2,150 points. Schafer placed 11th with 546 points, Novotny placed 12th with 545 points, Eallonardo placed 13th with 544 points and Doyle placed 15th with 515 points. There were a total of 18 competitors in this division.
Marmion’s Sporter team also placed third in State (first time since the late 1990s) with a team score of 1,993 points. Team members were junior Ernest Valladares of North Aurora, and sophomores Jorge Ochoa of Yorkville, Nicholas Salazar of Somonauk, Ill., and Peter Saucedo of Hinckley. Ochoa placed 4th with 519 points, Saucedo placed 5th with 515 points, Salazar placed 6th with 507 points and Valladares placed 20th with 452 points. There were a total of 37 competitors in the division.
Ochoa and Saucedo were selected by the coaches of the Illinois High School Rifle League to the All-State Team. Salazar was selected as second All-State Team.
