Two schools close due to swine fl

By on April 29, 2009

Updated 4/30: Due to a recommendation from the Kane County Health Department
regarding a probable case of swine flu in Batavia, the Batavia Park District
has announced all programs and gatherings that include middle school aged
children (grades 6-8) have been cancelled through 5/3/09. All other programs
and activities will continue to run as scheduled.

The Kane County Health Department recommended that the Rotolo Middle
School in Batavia and the Marmion Academy in Aurora close temporarily
following the identification of a probable swine flu case in each of the
schools.

The Health Department recommended that extracurricular activities be
cancelled and that staff, faculty and students do not gather together
outside of school, since that would defeat the goal of disrupting disease
transmission. The department is working closely with school officials to
protect all the students, staff and faculty.

Both students are recovering at home at this time. No further probable
cases have been identified.
