Knights’ journey at summer Morris Shootout ends in consolation
Morris—It’s always beneficial to see how a team will do in a spot it has to visit in due time.
Taking a chance to visit the 28th annual Morris Shootout at the home of the Northern Illinois Big XII rival Redskins, the Kaneland Knights boys basketball squad made a go of it at the end of June.
Kaneland, in the consolation quarterfinals, ended its Morris trek with a 55-41 setback to O’Fallon High School, after having dealt with Plainfield South in the day’s first contest, 53-46.
The Knights went 2-3 during the two-day hoops sprint, beginning with a 1-2 record on June 26. A late switch to Pool E with Ottawa, the Knights began with a 56-46 win over the Springfield Sentinels, before dropping a 66-46 game to Belleville West and a 58-51 result to the North Chicago Warhawks.
Edwardsville won the championship in a 50-38 game over Stevenson. The downstate institution also took the crown in 2012, while North Chicago won the tournament title in 2011.
Burlington Central, a familiar foe of the Knights, made it to the semifinals of the consolation bracket but was dispensed by Galesburg, 63-57.
