The Elburn Lions Club recently hosted its 84th annual Elburn Days. As a non-profit service organization, we work hard all year-round to raise money for charities. However, Elburn Days is our largest fundraiser of the year, with all the proceeds from the events supporting Elburn Lions Charities. We had beautiful weather, lively entertainment, family fun, great attendance and most importantly the support of the community. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Over 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members make the Lions the world’s largest service club organization. Being the largest club in the state of Illinois in one of the smaller towns in our state, the Elburn Lions can proudly say that the Elburn and surrounding communities are huge supporters of our cause. “We serve” is our motto, and we serve in many capacities. We do community volunteer work, support sight and health programs, provide disaster relief, protect the planet and empower the next generation by sponsoring a Leo Club for our local youth to participate in. We also host many events to support residents in our community when there is a need. “We serve” locally and globally as we address the challenges in our community, as well as beyond borders.
The Elburn Lions Club is fortunate to have the ability to offer the residents and guests passing through the village of Elburn the opportunity to visit and enjoy their day at our privately owned 27-acre park and facilities known as Elburn Lions Community Park. The handicap accessible playground, ball fields, grounds and buildings are all maintained by volunteers. Our Lions members and volunteers take great pride in our park and hope that you are able to enjoy some family time and make some wonderful memories while you visit. Due to the support of the community in previous years, we will be enhancing our handicap-accessible playground in the very near future. Make sure you stop by before the snow flies to see what we have done to bring a smile to the face of a child by making the play area more accessible and by adding additional equipment.
Also due to the generous support of all those that have attended our events, made donations and volunteered over the past years, the Elburn Lions Club and Elburn Leo Club have been able to provide the following services: reading/magnifying machines for the visually impaired, eye glasses and exams for those less fortunate; a literacy program and supply books to children in the Kaneland community that have a need; a holiday dinner for the senior citizens in our community; provide toys and host a day for financially struggling families to shop for their children during the holidays; provide free vision screenings utilizing the SPOT Pediavision; host a Safety Camp for local children; offer a free monthly spaghetti dinner to all in our community; co-host Ski for Sight for the visually impaired; supply toys for the oncology pediatric department at a local hospital; supply teddy bears to Conley Funeral Home, Elburn Police Department and Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District for grieving children who have lost a loved one; as well as donate equipment and supplies to the Special Education Department of Kaneland Community Unit School District No. 302.
Just to name a few, we have also supported the following charities or non-profit organizations with monetary donations: scholarships for Kaneland students, the local food pantries of Elburn and Sugar Grove, Camp Lions, Lazarus House, Mark Southern Memorial Scholarship Fund, Town and Country Library, South Elgin Lions handicap accessible playground, 4 Paws for Ability by purchasing a multi-purpose service dog for a local teenager, American Lung Association, Minot North Dakota Lions Club to assist with flood relief, Kaneland Public Fire and Safety, Bunco for Breast Cancer and Delnor Community Hospital.
As you can see, we are a very active Lions Club that does its best to support the local community and those in need. We would not be able to accomplish any of our goals or assist others without the support of every one of you that has made a donation, attended an event and/or volunteered your time. We cannot thank you enough for your support, and look forward to serving you in the future.
