Board grants first permit fee reduction to builder in Blackberry Creek
Subdivision has seen increase in permit requests this year
ELBURN—The Elburn Village Board on Monday approved its first request from a builder for a reduced building permit fee in the Blackberry Creek Subdivision. Builder Mike Hughes of Whitewood Builders LLC came before the board to request the reduction in his permit to build a home on Independence Avenue in Blackberry Creek.
The board in August approved a reduction in Blackberry Creek’s development fees back to 2006 levels to bring the subdivision’s fees more in line with those for the new Elburn Station development. The move was made in order to level the playing field and encourage the build-out of Blackberry Creek.
The process requires each individual builder to come before the board to request the reduction in the fees. According to Building Commissioner Tom Brennan, the difference for Whitewood Builders is a savings of about $950.
Blackberry Creek is currently about halfway to build-out. From 2010 to 2012, the subdivision saw two building permits issued each year. The permit issued to Whitewood Builders will be the subdivision’s sixth in 2013.
