Debra Ziomek

Debra Ziomek, nee Szczepaniak, loving wife and mother, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the age of 53. Debbie passed peacefully after a nearly 11-year battle with kidney cancer.

Debbie, who most recently resided in Montgomery, was a longtime resident of the village of Woodridge, Ill., and parishioner of St. Scholastica Parish in Woodridge. She was a dedicated member of the church’s Catholic Council of Women and spent many years as a part of the area’s Girl Scout program. Debbie worked 34 years at Fermilab in Batavia as an administrative assistant.

Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Emily Szczepaniak; and brother, Michael Szczepaniak.

She was a loving woman survived by her husband of 31 years, Michael Ziomek; her daughter, Stephanie (John) Beery; her grandsons, Isaac and Jackson; her brothers, Raymond Szczepaniak and Gerard Szczepaniak; her sisters, Lynn (Rick) Passarelli and Laurie (Don) Fosen; and her beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Tuesday at The Healy Chapel, Sugar Grove. A funeral Mass was held Wednesday at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Sugar Grove. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society or Seasons Hospice Foundation.
