BLOOMINGTON, Ill.—Illinois Prep Top Times meet action, held at the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University, boasts the best the indoor track season has to offer.
You can include Kaneland girls track in that offering after performing admirably in the qualification-only setting.
“It is a meet that the kids always enjoy. As they always do, all the girls competed well,” KHS coach Doug Ecker said.
The Class AA 60m Dash featured finalist Lauren Zick, who finished sixth in the finals with a time of 7.93 second after a 7.87 effort in the prelims. The senior also managed a fifth place in the 200m Dash with a time of 26.16, .22 ahead of Mt. Vernon’s Charde Golliday.
Distance matters had Sydney Strang of KHS finish fifth with a time of 2:25.94 in the 800m Run, while younger classmate Brianna Bower took an eighth place in the 3200m Run thanks to an 11:47.46.
The 4x200m Relay squad of Olivia Galor, Nicole Sreenan, Zick and Carly Elliott ran a 1:46.76 for third place, and the Galor/Zick/Sreenan/Strang foursome took second with a time of 4:08.51 in the 4x400m Relay.
The field events saw Lady Knight Maddie Keifer manage a tie for 16th in the High Jump at four feet, eight inches. Teammate and State qualifier Christina Delach vaulted to a 9-06 in the Pole Vault for fifth in the standings.
Zick was at it again in the Long Jump, leaping to a 17-5.75 effort for third place.
An encouraging development, especially early on, is the performance of the lower-class tier.
“The freshman and sophomores continue to improve and gain confidence as they show that they can compete against very good competition,” Ecker said.
Outdoor track happenings begin in earnest out in Maple Park on Tuesday, April 8, with Burlington Central and Oregon invading at 4:30 p.m.
