James Olmsted, 82 passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 25, 2014. Jim is survived by his cherished wife of 59 years, Barbara; two sons, Patrick and Timothy (Darla); daughter, Melissa; two grandchildren, Paden and Paige.
He is preceded in death by his first-born son, Michael.
Raised in humble circumstances in a large family of 11, Jim volunteered for the Navy and served his country during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Keppler and U.S.S. Fessenden. He married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1955, and they raised their four children in Elburn.
He worked for Caterpillar tractor, serving 35 years as a master craftsman tool and die maker. He also farmed for 15 years, continuing with that after retiring from Caterpillar. He and Barbara retired to Florida in 1993.
Jim was a mason at Blackberry Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rite and American Legion.
He was a devoted husband and father and was happiest when busy fixing things. He could always make you laugh, and was a good, loyal, honest and fair man. Jim also loved to travel, cruise, golf and bird-watch. He will always be loved and sorely missed.
