I believe you are referring to the real estate transfer tax. Towns under 25,000 population cannot enact it without a referendum. Sugar Grove has never attempted such a referendum and it would likely fail. Many proprty sales are subject to municipal approval of zoning, thus giving the town some power. Code enforcement is a separate issue.

Hmmm....I disagree. What you are saying is that the village of SG has not yet set up any mechanism in order to intervene in a property transaction, thus mitigating any chance for the village code enforcement to try to maintain some standards to the properties in our town, not to mention leaving a good revenue source sitting on the table.

Try selling a property in any suburb in DuPage county, the involvement by the local government will cost you a hefty penny for their "sticker," a stamp of approval so to speak allowing transfer of ownership of a property.

So the Aurora Sportsmen's club had the money to purchase/lease a new place in Waterman, but yet went into foreclosure on the property in Sugar Grove?

From this article it sounds to me that the ownership of the property has transferred to William Charles, LTD. If this is the case, why would the Village of Sugar Grove let this property exchange hands without an environmental clean-up plan put in place?

Think of all of the lead that is now sitting in the dirt backstops of this "agricultural" property.

Wake up Sugar Grove leadership!
