Kaneland golf’s postseason presence is not quite done with yet.

While the boys golf team’s action was shut down for 2009 after Monday’s Class 2A sectional, girls golfer Hayley Guyton performed well enough to advance to the 2009 Class 2A State gathering Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 18, at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill.

With a score of 75, Guyton finished second and secured a trip to State for the third time in her high school tenure. Abbie Horan of Lakes High School in Lake Villa was sectional champ with a mark of 73.

With her performance at Ingersoll Golf Club in Sterling, Guyton moves on to State, where she tries to improve her last two State appearances. The junior shot a 172 in 2007 to finish 68th and a 167 in 2008 to finish 42nd overall.

“I feel a lot more confident this time around. I feel like my short game is really good and improved,” Guyton said. “I just need to relax, and I want to see if I can make the top 10.”

On the boys end at Emerald Hill in Sterling, Josh Schuberg shot an 83, while Troy Krueger managed an 88, and Zach Douglas shot an 89. Mitchell Homb of Dixon was the medalist with 70, and Dixon and Galesburg scored 317 and 322, respectively to advance to State as a team.
