Kaneland and Geneva are no stranger to big games with lots of eyes fixed on every play.
This one on Friday might have the most meaning of them all.
Kaneland has a chance to put itself in the drivers seat for Western Sun Conference supremacy with a win against the visiting Vikings. Both schools come into the contest with one loss in WSC play.
In Western Sun Conference competition, the Knights have had little luck facing the able Vikings.
In 2006, Kaneland suffered its only regular season loss in a 24-21 that featured two quick fourth quarter touchdowns in a valiant comeback effort. 2007 saw Geneva trounce Kaneland in a 4-5 season for the Knights, 61-21. The 2008 clash saw the Vikings beat the Knights, 42-7, in Geneva’s road to the 7A championship game.
Last week’s 21-14 loss to visiting Rochelle marked Geneva’s first regular season loss since 2006 when Batavia beat the Vikings, 24-6.
If Saturday’s game conditions were any precursor, Kaneland and Geneva fans could be in for a chilly time of it. According to weather.com, Friday’s day forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of rain/snow showers, and 44 degrees for a
high, while night-time forecasts lean toward cloudy and an overnight low of 34 degrees. Go back to Sept. 18 at Sycamore for the last comfy game atmosphere.
