As the Western Sun Conference sets, Kaneland boys cross country rose to the occasion.
With a second-place finish at Kishwaukee Junior College in Malta on Saturday, the Knights secured their finest finish in the four years of the meet.
While Geneva (49 points) took the meet, Kaneland finished second with 71 points.
Sycamore, Batavia and Glenbard South rounded out the top five, while Yorkville, Rochelle and DeKalb finished in the 6-7-8 slots.
Geneva’s Kevin Sparks won the course at 15 minutes, 27 seconds, but Kaneland’s Matt Reusche and Trevor Holm continued their consistent turnout.
Reusche finished fifth at 16:03, while Holm finished 16:07. Both earned all-WSC nods.
Teammates Edgar Valle (16:24) and Dominic Furco (16:39) finished 16th and 20th, respectively.
With 53 points the JV crew also earned second behind Yorkville. Nate Rehkopf took a 17:17 race to seventh place. Freshman Billy Hart finished eighth at 17:19, and Clayton Brundige took 10th at 17:26.
