WCC Highlights feature XC, soccer

SUGAR GROVE—Waubonsee Community College’s boys’ cross country team saved a great performance for the biggest stage of the season so far, posting a team total of 16 to secure the NJCAA Region IV Division I championship on Saturday.

Entering the race ranked 16th nationally, WCC outpaced Oakton (83) and Morton (91) to take the title. Greg Adelman ran the course in 27 minutes, 46 seconds, while teammate Drew Schmitt was close by at 27:48. Sophomore Jared Klein finished third at 28:04.

On the women’s side, Kaneland High School graduate Erin Cinto placed eight in order to qualify for the National meet.

Waubonsee’s soccer team ended its season thanks to an Elgin Community College goal on Saturday, 1-0 in the Region IV championship. Goalkeeper Brittany Chase had five saves in goal. WCC’s final record is 13-5-3, while ECC plays Schoolcraft next Saturday in the District title game.
