Sandra Lee Kemp (nee Santmyers) passed away on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at the Tiller’s Nursing Home, surrounded by her family after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
She was born on March 4, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., and resided in Grosse Point, Mich., the daughter of Melville and Evelyn Mae (Kopp) Santmyers. She was married to Roy Kemp in 1956.
Sandra loved life and loved her family, friends, including the many friends she had made over the past 11 years at Tiller’s and Hillside, and her many pets. Sandy will be missed by all who loved her. She had a great sense of humor, was kind to everyone, and enjoyed life no matter what obstacles came her way.
She leaves behind a brother, Mel (Maria) Santmyers of California; two daughters, Cindy Jo (Steve) Cunningham of Algonquin, Ill., and Rebecca Lee (Mark) Johnson of Oswego, Ill.; three grandchildren, Kellen Jay Bain, Melissa (Brian) Scottberg and Troy Johnson; and two great-granddaughters, Kayla and Sarah Scottberg.
Preceding her in death are her parents and Roy Kemp, as well as her beloved grandson, Corey Joe Bain.
Friends may call on the family on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5 to 7:15 p.m. at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Drive, Sugar Grove, with a memorial service at 7:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Sandy has requested that donations be made to an animal shelter/sanctuary of the donor‘s choice, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Provena Mercy Hospice or any other nonprofit organization.
The family wishes to thank Tiller’s Nursing Home and the many wonderful, compassionate and loving staff members that were a family to us and our mom for so many years.
