Astronomy group hosts pair of public events

By on February 6, 2009

The Fox Valley Astronomical Society (FVAS) will host two public events in February.

The first is a lecture and observing “Star Party” on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Peck Farm. A short lecture will be presented in the Orientation Barn outlining the night’s observing. The group will then move to the main parking lot, where members of the club will have several telescopes set up to view celestial targets. Weather permitting, the evening will start at 7:30 p.m.

The second event is the monthly meeting also held at the Peck Farm Orientation Barn on Monday, Feb. 9. A presentation is given about upcoming sky events and a short lecture of current interest is given. The meetings are open to visitors, and all are welcome. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. and usually lasts about an hour. It is followed by general conversation about topics of interest.

FVAS is a group of amateur astronomers with varied experience. No telescope or science experience is needed to learn and enjoy our evening sky. The group loves to help newcomers and all are welcome.
