I agree, the residents of Mallard Point should just form the association to rid themselves of this problem and any others that might arise in the future. It's time to suck it up and take responsibility for the subdivision you live in.

The village gave it's permission to build that house on that piece of land. If that land was not fit for a house to sit on it, then someone in the village or paid by the village screwed up! Your right about taking responsibility, I believe you are wrong with whom that should be.

Oh, and I know it's going to be our tax dollars fixing the problem. Maybe that will finally be the wakeup call for the voters walking into the election booth next time?

The area in question is owned privately, therefore the Village of SG has no responsibility. Does the Village plow and salt your driveway which is owned privately, and could pose a liability to some? I think it's time the residents stop complaining, and shirking responsibility and get together form an association to rid them of the problem.

So the town who approved the site to be built on, oversaw the construction process and happily accepts taxes on those homes has no responsibility at all?

If the town, engineering firm, or person who called heads on the coin toss (however the decision was made) is not going to be held responsible for the work that we pay them for, then maybe we need to figure out a different manner to decide which “marsh” we should or should not build houses on.

“Why should the Village of Sugar Grove pay the expense to add drainage tile?” Why should the people of Sugar Grove pay wages to people or firms who’s decisions resulted in others having to pay the price?

"Some also want to know why the current owner of the retention pond would not be responsible for maintaining it."

Maybe that's because the owner of that pond is the chief of police?

As an ex-resident of Mallard Point and an engineer, I think it's funny to hear from Sean Michels that "there weren’t the engineering capabilities back when the development was originally built that exist today." I seem to remember that the Romans engineered aqueducts more than 2,000 years ago???

Someone made a mistake. Maybe it was when the subdivision was first considered or maybe it was when the new town homes along route 47 and the access roads were put in (since that's the only major change to the area that I have seen for those past 15 years). Having the residents of Mallard Point or those of Sugar Grove having to pay up for that error is wrong.
