Let there be fireworks!
The fact that other communities canceled their fireworks celebrations for the Fourth of July made Sugar Grove Lions Club President Bob Bohler more determined to make sure that the fireworks show went on at this year’s Corn Boil.

New amusement company for Corn Boil
Fantasy Amusements owner Bill Johnson started working in the carnival business when he was 11 years old. The carnival came to his hometown, Niles, Ill., and the owner asked the young boy if he would help him pick up balls in the Milk Bottle Game.

Live entertainment is always a crowd-builder at the Corn Boil, and with the addition of a Sunday performance, this year will be no different.

Sugar Grove Citizen of the Year
Created in 1998, the Citizen of the Year award is presented each year at the Sugar Grove Corn Boil to the nominee who best demonstrates the qualities of “true dedication, innovation and pioneering spirit” that continue to help Sugar Grove grow and develop.

What’s new at Corn Boil?
The 2009 Corn Boil will host a band on Sunday, unlike in previous years. That is one of a few new features at the festival this summer, which include an appearance by Miss Northern Illinois and a better-than-ever kids’ activities station.
