MAPLE PARK—Maple Park Police Chief Mike Acosta on Aug. 7 brought in a representative of the Learning for Life’s Exploring career exploration program to the Maple Park Village Board meeting to discuss the posibility of setting up a program with the village’s Police Department.

Kaneland—The Kaneland cross country team will host its inaugural double-elimination Baggo tournament on Sunday, Aug. 26, at Kaneland Harter Middle School.

Indianapolis—Batters in high school softball no longer will have to make an attempt to avoid being hit by a pitch in order to be awarded first base.

Geary plans to make communication a priority for the future
Sugar Grove—Sugar Grove Village Trustee Kevin Geary announced this week that he will run for village president in 2013.

The annual Elburn Days festival, a three-day festival and series of community events that runs from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 17-19, is technically an Elburn Lions event, but in reality it demonstrates what can happen when all manner of groups and individuals work together for the good of the community.

The Elburn Leo Club and Elburn Lions Club recently hosted a joint fundraiser to help offset the expense of a multipurpose service dog that we purchased for local resident Kara Peters.

On Friday, Aug. 17, Governor Quinn has called a Special Session of the General Assembly that will cost Illinois taxpayers an extra $40,000 and will be as good for us as a deep-fried Twinkie at the State Fair.

Lions Club: a presence in the community since 1929
Elburn—The Elburn Lions Club has hosted the annual Elburn Days celebration since 1930. The first-ever Elburn Days, however, was billed as the “Elburn Road Celebration and Fall Festival,” and was held in October in honor of the last concrete being poured on the road from Elburn to Sugar Grove (Route 47).

Elburn—Judi Day is a volunteer who wears two hats when Elburn Days rolls around.

Elburn—The Elburn Days carnival has something for everyone—fun but tame rides for the youngsters and more exciting rides for the older kids, no matter how old.

ELBURN—The Elburn Leos Club received permission from village trustees to invite a circus to come to town on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The club had successfully had a circus performance about 10 years ago, and will hold it this year as a fundraiser for the organization.

KANELAND—The Kaneland Sports Boosters are teaming up with Dodge for a great, fun-filled event during “Knights Under the Lights.”

KANEVILLE—The INC Board, NFP, the local mental health authority for seven townships in southern Kane County, is looking for a Virgil Township resident volunteer to serve on the township community mental health board.
