KHS boys beat the heat in Tuesday win
by Mike Slodki
In hot and humid conditions, the Kaneland Knights boys cross country team left West Chicago and Wheaton Academy gasping.
Tuesday’s meet had the Knights’ 28 points better than Wheaton Academy’s 38 and West Chicago’s 65 at Elburn Woods.
Dodging opponents and the occasional mosquito, Paul Davies of Kaneland ran the three-mile course in 16 minutes, 59 seconds, good enough for second.
“This is my first year, and I just tried to pace off the guy in front of me,” Davies said.
Logan Markuson finished fifth at 17:36, and teammate Dominic Furco finished sixth overall with a time of 18:09.
Joe Levita finished seventh at 18:17. Edgardo Valle finished eighth with a tally of 18:18, and Matt Reusche went ninth at 18:20.
On the frosh/soph side, the Knights handled West Chicago 20-42.
Sophomore Grant Alef finished second for KHS at 14:40, while Clayton Brundige finished third at 15:27.
The boys go next on Tuesday, Sept. 9, hosting Burlington Central and East Aurora.
