The Kaneland Foundation decided to cancel its Draw Down Raffle and Casino Night 2009 due to the downed economy.
The event is the second largest fundraiser for the foundation and has been held the past four years. But with family budgets under siege from multiple worthy organizations, the foundation decided to ease the pressure during this time of economic uncertainty.
“The community has always been very supportive, but we felt it was insensitive to ask for contributions during these tough economic times,” Foundation President Ronaelle Carlson said.
The Foundation has been in place for 22 years and is a significant sponsor of the Kaneland Fine Arts Festival. The Draw Down and Casino Night has been an opportunity for the community to learn about the foundation and have a fun night out with other community members.
Bonnie Proctor, who has been involved with the organization since its inception, has seen times like this before.
“I’ve seen many cycles up and down in our economy and in the district budget. Our community has always been very generous to reach out during difficult times to the School District, as I’m sure they will continue in our future. It’s part of the Knight Spirit that binds our large community together as one,” Proctor said.
The foundation plans to hold its largest fundraiser later this year. The golf outing at Bliss Woods will go on as planned on Sept. 17. The event may offer a wine tasting after dinner to raise additional funds.
“We hope to make enough at that event to fund any grant requests for the 2009-10 school year,” Carlson said.
The board is tentatively planning to hold its Valentine’s Day Draw Down Raffle and Casino Night 2010 as scheduled.
