Board recognizes students with high test scores

KANELAND—Kaneland students from the elementary, middle school and high school levels received recognition from the School Board on Monday for having achieved high or perfect scores on the 2013 ISAT, PSAE, EXPLORE, PLAN and ACT tests.

Kane County 4-H’ers earn awards at state fair

Springfield—More than 30 members of the 4-H in Kane County sent their award-winning projects from the Kane County Fair to compete at the 2010 Illinois State Fair.

Local residents who earned state awards include Samantha Lederman of Sugar Grove, who earned Superior status in the Photography category; Jessica Poust of Maple Park, who earned Superior status in the Visual Arts, Chalk/Carbon/Pigment category; and Demi Schlehofer, who earned Superior status in the Visual Arts, Glass/Plastic category.

Several Kane County 4-H members also competed in the various animal/livestock events at the state fair. Buddy Haas of Elburn earned first-place honors in the Beef Cattle category, Crossbred Steer sub-category; and third-place honors in the Beef Cattle category, All Other Breeds Junior Steer sub-category.

Girl Scouts give to charities

Members of the Kaneland Junior Girl Scout Troop 694 earned a bronze award by running a food drive for local charities. The girls collected three shopping carts, an open loading cart and several additional bags of food for the Elburn Food Pantry. The girls also packed lunches for the Hesed House and packaged food for the Feed My Starving Children program.
