Local students graduate from University of Iowa

IOWA CITY, IOWA—The following local residents received degrees from the University of Iowa at the close of the 2014 spring semester: Jeffrey Gillett (Bachelor of Arts, history; certificate in museum studies) and Michelle Stammet (pharmacy) of Elburn; and Stephen Cervantes (Bachelor of Arts, international studies; certificate in entrepreneurial management), Rachael Hinds (Bachelor of Arts, communication studies; certificate in entrepreneurial management) and Alyssa Snyder (Bachelor of Arts, psychology), all of Sugar Grove.

Local residents earn scholarships through the CFFRV

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley recently awarded 16 scholarships to southwestern Kane County residents for the 2010-11 academic year. The potential value of these scholarships over the next four years is $51,000.

The purpose of the Community Foundation Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to students who are academically qualified to pursue an advanced education in their chosen field of study. Scholarships are established within the Community Foundation by individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations, civic clubs and through bequests.

Local residents earning scholarships include Zachary Nolte of Elburn (Alexander Family Scholarship), Thomas Cruger of Sugar Grove (Wesley F. Fisher Memorial Scholarship), Luke Singer of Sugar Grove (Lee W. & Rosemary A. Jordan Scholarship), Stefanie Rempala of Sugar Grove (Kiwanis Club of Aurora, Illinois Dr. Harry Y. Greeley Medical/Healthcare Scholarship), Haley Johnson of Elburn, Anna Pauls and Jamela Thompson of Sugar Grove (J. Paul & Wanda H. Kuhn Scholarship), Jordan Rettig of Sugar Grove (Marguerite E. Miller Education Foundation Scholarship), Stephen Cervantes of Sugar Grove (Nicor Gas Scholarship), Lisa Roberson of Sugar Grove and Patrick Ruffolo of Montgomery (David B. Perry Scholarship), Joseph Gendusa of Sugar Grove (Moshe Jamil Rogers Memorial Scholarship), Michael Vilim of Sugar Grove and Jared Shurtleff of Elburn (Robert G. Schweitzer Scholarship), and Abigail Strong of Sugar Grove (Simons-Minkler Scholarship).
