    5 years ago: A new athletics conference was proposed. Called the Western Sun, it would include Geneva, Batavia, Sycamore, Rochelle, DeKalb, Yorkville, Glenbard South and Kaneland.

    10 years ago: Citizens Opposed to Railport Expansion held an informational meeting at the Maple Park Civic Center, drawing 1,000 area citizens. The topic was a proposed Union Pacific railport project just east of Maple Park.

    15 years ago: Sugar Grove took its first steps in hiring a Village Administrator, after passing then-Trustee’s Norm Zielke’s motion by a 3-1 vote.

    30 years ago: Mike Jorgensen, a 1976 Kaneland graduate and resident of Sugar Grove, was named an All American in the sport of wrestling while attending Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill.
